Chandigarh Weather: Day Temperature Surges Beyond 40 Deg C Again, Rain Likely During Weekend

Chandigarh: Day temperature in Chandigarh surged back above 40 degrees Celsius on Monday after a brief dip on Sunday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The mercury climbed from 39.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday to 40.2 degrees Celsius on Monday, exceeding normal levels by 2.4 degrees. This marks the third time this season that the temperature has breached the 40 degree- mark. The minimum temperature also rose from 22.2 degrees Celius on Sunday to 23.5 degrees Celsius on Monday, which was one degree below the usual level.
In the coming days, the city is expected to see similar weather conditions, with a possibility of rain around Saturday, attributed to a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) expected to impact the area by May 9. IMD officials anticipate light rain around May 11 due to this disturbance.
Over the next three days, the maximum temperatures will range between 38 degrees Celsius and 39 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be between 23 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the Mohali health department has issued an advisory in response to the prevailing heat wave conditions. Residents have been urged to limit sun exposure and stay indoors whenever possible to mitigate health risks associated with the intense heat. Vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, newborns, outdoor workers, and those with pre-existing health conditions like heart disease or obesity, are particularly at risk of dehydration and heat-related illnesses.
