FAYETTE, IOWA (May 27, 2020) — For the past 15 years, a dedicated group of Upper Iowa University (UIU) alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends participated in the Des Moines Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI). During the annual July event, the Team Peacock members promote UIU and raise money for University projects and funds.

In response to the decision to postpone the 48th annual RAGBRAI, Team Peacock has announced the 2020 Team Peacock Virtual Ride. Team organizers are excited to host this new event for participants to safely partake in during the entire month of July. Individual or group bicyclists are welcome to participate in their own community and set their own level of commitment during registration. Team Peacock is also extending this unique opportunity to walkers, runners, rollerbladers — essentially anyone who is not utilizing a motorized vehicle.

As part of the virtual ride, those who register receive a Team Peacock bandana, bib, rolla banner, mile log, BINGO card, kid's scavenger hunt card, and tech tattoos. The $25 early online-registration ends Monday, June 8. Registration is $35 per person after June 8. Team Peacock will direct proceeds to UIU Counseling and Wellness. Funds will ultimately benefit students by providing new technology, programming and tools to support and promote mental health and wellness.

Since 2005, Team Peacock has raised more than $1.4 million to benefit UIU students and programming. The list of scholarships and other projects and/or programs sponsored by the 2019 team included: UIU Annual Fund and various scholarships, the beneficiaries from this year's fundraising effort will include a Military Family Fund, UIU Cabby Dean's Fund — Sand Volleyball Courts, UIU Wrestling, UIU Recreation Center, UIU Mock Trial, School of Business Firth Dean's Fund, UIU Track and Field, and UIU Athletic Training Education Program.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, RAGBRAI officials announced in April their decision to postpone the 2020 event until July 25-31, 2021.
