ELLSWORTH, Maine (WABI) - The Ellsworth tennis team is back for a new season.

Some of the Eagles’ roster is switching from the basketball to tennis court from season to season.

Their winter sport can help them transition to another activity where footwork is so important.

“I find when I’m playing, my feet move a lot faster than I do. It’s more instinct. Any time a serve, even if it doesn’t go over, my feet are already set, ready to go,” said Megan Jordan, senior.

“Definitely agility and getting yourself set and ready when the ball comes toward you (translates). This is my first year playing, so my reflexes (help) a little bit. I actually caught a ball during practice on accident, so it kind of goes back to basketball, but I definitely say those two,” said Elise Sargent, junior.

“Your movements in tennis are basically the same as playing defense in basketball. You’re going back and forth, and same with soccer. I’m a goalie in soccer, so I do a lot of those side-to-side movements,” said Cooper Mitchell, sophomore.

The Eagles have made seven all-time boys and girls state title appearances.

The boys won it all in 1996.
